The Chilean rose tarantula, also known as the Chilean flame tarantula, Chilean fire tarantula, Chilean red haired tarantula ore the Chilean rose haired tarantula is native to the desert regions of Chile.

Chilean rose tarantula is a colorful, fairly large and hardy tarantula. Its colors can range from gray, to pink, to a reddish brown color. They will grow to about a five to six inch leg span. The males will live about five years while females can live as long as twenty years.

The Chilean rose tarantula has become one of the most common species of tarantula to keep as pet and available at most pet stores. Chilean rose tarantulas are quite docile, low maintenance and inexpensive, so this spider will make a wonderful pet for both beginner and experienced owners.

A five to ten gallon aquarium or terrarium tank with a locking screen top is suitable to housing the Chilean rose tarantula. The width of the tank should be 2 – 3 times wider than the leg span of the spider wide, and as tall as the spider’s leg span. The substrate should be fairly deep. Two to three inches of peat moss, soil or vermiculate can be used as a substrate. And for a shelter or retreat, wood, cork bark, or half of small clay flower pot can be used. The tank will also require a shallow non-metallic water dish.

Pet Chilean rose tarantula diet mainly crickets, grass-hoppers, beetles, moths, mealworms, cockroaches and pinky mice. Gut-loaded crickets are better hydrated and provide more nutritive value to the tarantula. The tarantula should be fed few times a week and if it does not eat the food it should be removed the following day.
